The Museum is located in the original installations of the steam locomotive depot of Vilanova i la Geltrú, some railway constructions done between the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
In September 1972, the 19th Congress of European Railroad Modelers (MOROP) was held as an exhibition of steam locomotives in the warehouse, which had been previously closed in 1967.
This center was opened in 2016, offering information on the history of the funicular (cable car), its different stages and remodeling, its technical characteristics, as well as exhibiting different particular objects of the Funi. It is also the Tourist Information Point of the municipality.

Vilobí is arranged around the top of a hill that looks over a large part of the municipality and is also formed by a large number of scattered houses. Gypsum has conditioned not only the toponymy but above all the physical and economic features of the municipality that must have already been settled in the Neolithic Era and has reached the present day as a witness to the existence of gypsum in the area since the Roman era.
