Winter plans: gastronomic edition
When the cold weather settles over Penedès, the region brings out two of its best-loved culinary traditions. The Ruta del Xató takes you through Calafell, El Vendrell, Sitges, Vilafranca del Penedès and Vilanova i la Geltrú to discover how each town puts its own spin on the sauce behind this cult winter dish. And as if that weren't enough, calçot season arrives to round off a gastronomic calendar that has nothing to envy in any other part of the country.
Wineries, restaurants and popular xatonades join forces to turn winter weekends into the perfect excuse to head out, eat well and enjoy the territory. Calçots with romesco, Penedès wine and good company: sometimes, the simplest plans are the ones that stay with you the longest.

Ruta del Xató
Xató is one of the specialties of the winter season, a tratidional salad with cod fish and romesco gravy that you can find in most restaurant menus. Depending on the Penedès area, the recipe for the xató sauce is slightly different, so you have the perfect excuse to taste the different types... one every weekend!
All you have to do is take a look at the dates of the several events of the Ruta del xató this winter - in Calafell, el Vendrell, Sitges, Vilafranca del Penedès and Vilanova i la Geltrú - make a new Whatsapp group and organize your gastro experience!
Calçots season
Calçots are available for a very short period of time, so hurry up!
You have many budget options. You can book a table in one of the restaurants of the Penedès Wine Route that offer a calçots menu. Calçots, romesco sauce, artichokes, a good Penedès wine... you don't need much else, it is just the simple things that make us happy!
A well-rounded experience is to visit a winery that combines a wine tasting and a calçotada in the winery itself, or sometimes at a nearby restaurant. Let's take a look at the food and wine activities in our wineries!
